LG Refrigerator Repair by the Appliance Repair Doctor
The Appliance Repair Doctor repairs appliances, and specifically offer LG fridge repair, throughout greater San Francisco Bay Area. Our technicians are licensed to work on all brands, including LG appliances. Though LG fridges are highly rated by owners and Consumer Reports, sometimes even the products of highly regarded companies need repairs. Following is a list of common problems with LG fridges and what it might take to make repairs.
- The refrigerator has Stopped Working: If the appliance is receiving power several other reasons could keep it from running such as a blown circuit or a door switch incorrectly showing the door open. They will have to be replaced. A more serious problem may have been caused by dust and lint coating the condenser coils. Leaving the coils uncleaned for a long time can cause the condenser to burn out.
If the condenser must be replaced the cost of food lost to spoilage must be added to that of the repair. Most refrigerator manufacturers recommend having the condenser coils cleaned by a professional every three to six months.
- A Faulty Compressor: The compressor’s job is to compress the refrigerant from a low pressure cool vapor into hot high pressure vapors. Then the vapors become compressed into high pressure liquid which flows through evaporator coils to cool them. Air flowing over the coils keeps the refrigerator cool. A low refrigerant level may mean a leak somewhere in the system. Or the condenser fan may be defective.
- Moisture Forms on the Refrigerator’s Exterior: Condensation causes “sweat” to appear on the outside of the refrigerator. Cool air produced by the refrigerator draws moisture from the surrounding warmer air. Worn door gaskets or setting the temperature too cool can cause condensation. An internal problem with faulty water lines or connections can also cause condensation to form.
- The refrigerator is Leaking: A faulty or loose gasket can make the refrigerator work harder. Condensation then forms on the condenser coils and drips on the floor. The gasket can be cleaned and lubricated to make it seal but usually must be replaced. The defrost drain should be checked to make sure it is not blocked by food particles or ice. The leak may also be caused by a cracked drain pan. Water lines, like those running to the ice maker, might be torn, cracked or kinked. Or maybe their connections have worn out. Any defective parts will have to be replaced.
- The Refrigerator is not Cooling: Excess frost may have developed on the evaporative coils in the freezer. It can be removed by manual, or in the case of frost free refrigerators, automatic defrosting. However, elements of the defrost system may have failed. If either the defrost timer, the defrost heater or the evaporator fan fail the refrigerator can’t figure out when to cool and when to defrost.
The Appliance Repair Doctor has technicians licensed to repair and experienced with all models of LG appliances and refrigerators.
Commonly Needed LG Fridge Repairs
For an improperly working refrigerator, repair is urgently needed. And quickly. The company a homeowner or business owner calls must be able to respond immediately. It must give repairs the highest priority. LG fridges are highly rated by customers and Consumer Reports..Yet even the products of premium brands sometimes need repairs. Following are some of the most common malfunctions and repair solutions for LG fridges:
– The refrigerator has Stopped Working:
If power is reaching the appliance several other reasons can cause it to no longer run. A circuit may have blown. The door switch may falsely read an open door. An accumulation of dust or lint may coat the condenser coils. If the coils haven’t been properly cleaned for a long time the condenser may have burnt out.
– The refrigerator is Making Unusual Noises:
Strange noises may indicate dust-encased condenser coils or the refrigerator motor might be constantly running in an attempt to keep the interior cool. If the coils are clean the problem might be with the insulation. Any of these problems may indicate the start of problems with the internal workings of the refrigerator.
Dirty condenser coils can lead to many serious problems such as the condenser burning out. To the cost of replacing it will be added that of the food lost through spoilage. Most companies recommend condenser coils be cleaned by a professional every three to six months.
– “Sweat” Appears on the Outside of the Refrigerator:
Moisture forming on the outside of the refrigerator is caused by condensation. Cool air from the fridge air draws moisture from the warmer air surrounding it. “Sweat” can be caused by damaged or worn door gaskets or the temperature being set too cold. Dirty condenser coils or internal malfunctions within the refrigerator can also be the problem.
– The refrigerator is Leaking:
Food particles or ice blocking the defrost drain often cause a leak beneath the appliance. Water can also leak from a cracked drain pan. Water lines running to the ice maker sometimes crack. Plastic hoses tear, crack, or become kinked. Sometimes connections to the lines wear out. In any case, the problem should be taken care of at once.
– The refrigerator is Not Cooling Properly:
Loss of cooling can be attributed to many causes: One of several of the unit’s fans may not be working. A sealed system component, either the compressor, evaporator or condenser may be at fault. Other causes may be faulty defrost timers, relays or fan motors.
If not addressed immediately many of the problems listed above can be expensive.
